NIGHTLIFE IN SOLIDARITY

Fundraiser against the Criminalization of Migration
Nightlife in Solidarity is a fundraising campaign against the criminalization of migration. The goal is to raise at least CHF 15,000 for Captain Support by the end of 2025. To do this, we are hosting solidarity dinners at Babyangel from December 3–5, 2025. The campaign will conclude with a solidarity party on December 6 at Babyangel, Helsinki Club and in Umbo by Sooriyan collective.
Captain Support is a transnational network that stands up against the mass incarceration of people on the move. But this work is expensive: costs include fees for lawyers, travel to often remote prisons, contributions for interpreters, and much more. The effort is worth it: at best, it has a direct impact and leads to people being released from prison.
Your donation can make a difference – starting now!
Nightlife in Solidarity
From Senegal to England, thousands of migrants are in prison. Because they attempted to cross a border. The sentences: up to 300 years in prison. What sounds unimaginable is a little-known but extremely violent reality of today’s migration system.
We believe this is an injustice we must resist—through direct support for Captain Support!
In October, Nightlife in Solidarity kicks off with a large online campaign to raise awareness about Captain Support and the criminalization of migration—and to raise funds. At an information event in mid-November, you can hear about the issue first-hand. From December 3 to 5, different Zurich kitchen crews will each cook a solidarity dinner at Babyangel on the Geroldareal. The campaign will conclude with a solidarity party at Babyangel, Helsinki Club and in Umbo by Sooriyan collective on December 6.
Our goal: to raise at least CHF 15,000. All proceeds will go to Captain Support to cover costs for legal assistance, travel to remote prisons, contributions for interpreters, information events, and much more. We are convinced that crossing borders is not a crime but a right—and that no human being is illegal. FreeThemAll!
We call on the hospitality and nightlife sectors to show solidarity with us. Throughout the month, offer a solidarity dish or a solidarity drink, or host your own event to support the campaign.
This project is coordinated by a loose network of private individuals, activists, and people from Zurich’s nightlife. We aim to build a bridge to the Schengen external borders—and send a message to prisons and camps: you matter to us; we are standing with you. We invite venues and organizations from nightlife, hospitality, and culture to join us and support the campaign.
Captain Support
Captain Support stands up together with those affected. Spread across Greece, Italy, Spain, various West and North African countries, as well as France and England, Captain Support organizes a network of activists, affected people, relatives, local support groups, and lawyers. Through public interventions, legal assistance, and prison visits, Captain Support seeks to inform about the mass incarceration of migrants in countries in Europe and Africa and to organize resistance against it.
And the work has an impact: by pursuing legal cases, numerous acquittals have been achieved in recent years. And organizing support helps break the isolation of prisons.
But this work is expensive — and that is why we need you! Your financial contribution helps cover legal fees, translation services, and prison visits — all vital pillars in our common struggle against the unjust and violent criminalization of migrants.
Donate
Nightlife in Solidarity offers various ways to donate and aims to raise CHF 15,000 for the Captain Support network. Starting in October 2025, an online campaign will mobilize around the topic. From December 3 to 5, three solidarity dinners will take place at Babyangel, with varying kitchen crews.
The finale will be a solidarity party on December 6 at Babyangel, Helsinki Club and in Umbo by Sooriyan collective. In addition, various specials are planned in restaurants and nightlife venues — all to raise as much as possible for Captain Support.

About us
In 2024, we held Nightlife in Solidarity for the first time. Our question was: What can we do from Zurich to counter the injustices of today’s migration regime and the fact that people seeking safety too often die in the Mediterranean? One answer: provide financial support to projects delivering practical help on the ground. The campaign sparked a wave of solidarity and raised CHF 60,000 for four projects in a short time. We are still overwhelmed!
We want to build on that success — which is why we decided to run Nightlife in Solidarity 2.0.
Because thousands of people are imprisoned for exercising their right to migrate — and hardly anyone talks about it. We decided to build a bridge to the external borders and support those trapped in the isolation of prisons.
Our goal: to raise CHF 15,000 to donate to the Captain Support network, which resists the mass incarceration of people on the move.
We have come together as a group for the second time — to use our time and skills from Switzerland to support vital work at the EU’s external borders through financial means.
We are a network of cultural workers, activists, and people from Zurich’s nightlife. If you would like to get involved with Nightlife in Solidarity, write to us on Instagram or by email!
It is also about sending a signal. Most of us could do more to oppose repressive migration policies: one of many ways is to support effective work financially. We want to create space for that — and raise awareness of a largely unknown and rarely discussed side of current migration policy: the criminalization of migration and of migrants.
